The Al-Qaryatayn Emergency Response Enhancement project aims to support and rebuild emergency medical services in the town of Al-Qaryatayn, in rural Homs, by establishing and running an emergency-care unit inside the National Hospital — enabling urgent, safe care for patients with serious internal conditions such as sepsis, acute respiratory failure, heart attacks, and strokes.
Al-Qaryatayn lies far from the major medical centers in Homs and Damascus, and critically ill patients often have to travel for hours to reach appropriate treatment. The project works to improve the quality of emergency care locally, reduce the need for dangerous and delayed transfers, and raise the readiness of medical and nursing staff.
We believe that access to fast, safe emergency care is a basic right for every person, and that supporting rural hospitals in Syria is a vital step toward closing the health gap between cities and remote areas. The project therefore focuses on building a practical, sustainable solution within the local health system.

Public-awareness campaigns on cardiac and respiratory diseases, risk factors, the importance of seeking medical help early, and preventing serious complications.
The project goes beyond equipping a unit: it builds a lasting, scalable model by embedding it within the hospital and health directorate, and training local staff to continue the work after the project ends.
The AQ-ERE Project is built on the principles of partnership, transparency, respect for local expertise, equity of access to health care, and sustainability — while engaging local staff and the community in planning, implementation, and evaluation.
